Hamsters have nerve cells at the base of their whiskers that sense the size of open spaces. Wild Syrian hamsters are classed as agricultural pests. An individual hamster has been known to store in excess of 30 kg of grain. Your hamster will come to know you by your scent as his eyesight isn't too great! If you are having trouble picking up your new (or old) hamster, you may want to rub your (clean) hands on the hamster bedding, before you put it in his cage so that your scent becomes the familiar smell of his bedding.  |
